Grace & Favor – A Life Worth Living

Lost in chair land

I'm still working on opening my porch for the summer and found that the furniture is in bad need of a fresh face.  I've started with the chairs for our outdoor table.  They belonged to my grandmother and spent many years in the barn of a cousin.  By the time I got them they were ready for the porch rather than the dining room.  There are eight of them and until today they were painted white.

I've now painted them the lightest color of blue and although they look fresh and clean they also look boring and embarrassed.  I need some suggestions on what I can do to give them some life.  If you have an idea or suggestion please please help me, I'm at a loss.

The color just isn't going to show up well but hopefully this will give you some idea of what they look like.  The table is going to be painted an off white and possibly include some wide stripes of this blue on the top.

This is what the table with chairs looked like last year, the table is currently black and a drop cloth tablecloth was covering it as it also needs a face lift.

Well, if you have an idea for my chairs please either reply here or email (chturner67@gmail.com) me and thanks so much for stopping by.

Char, it is wonderful you have 8 chairs to work with. Here's my ideas.
Either distress and wax them the way they are. Repaint them in a tricycle red, then your pretty blue over the top and lightly distress so the a little red shows through at the edges. Or paint the seat portion with stripes to look like vintage grain sacks, distress, and wax. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

I can't help you...I'm no good at that kind of stuff. Heck, I managed to spray my sleeve, my gold bracelet & 1/2 my hand the first time I used oil rubbed bronze spray paint. ~~insert rolled eyes~~

I like what you've done so far, though. Its a pretty blue & looks nice with your white table.

Hugs,
Rett

I heartily agree with the first commentor. Good luck. Can hardly wait to see what you do. You are so lucky to have such great wood chairs from your Grama. Those are really good chair, love the style and shape.
Happy weekend.

Miss Char,
I LOVE the color!
Cool and refreshing for Spring and deliciously cool for the heat of Summer!!!
Just a thought...cushions in the other colors of your porch!!! Chair slips are adorable too!!! Perhaps a vintage quilt for the table cover???
I'll be watching to see the front porch in all it's updated glory, soon!!!
Fondly,
Pat

I love the whimsy of the light blue so I don't see them as being in need. My kitchen chairs (white) have that bare and embarrassed look though so I know what you mean about wanting something just to finish it off. I will look at your suggestions.

I actually love the color of the chairs. If it were me, I would just dress them up a little with seat cushions. Although I do love the idea suggested by Dawn....
