My New Digs

Since I retired all of my "stuff" from my workplace  has been in boxes in the garage.  We're talking nearly three months now and every time I needed something I'd run out into the freezing garage to hunt for it.  Enough is enough.

I really don't need a home office but I did need a place where I could write notes (yes I still do that), organize documents that needed to be kept for quick reference and maybe just a place to call mine away from my husbands editing room that he uses as an office.

I had planned to pick up an old desk at GW or Salvation Army and refinish it myself.  Since we are many weeks away from being able to work outside to refinish a place I started hunting for something already painted and itching for a new home.  I found this pretty little desk at one of my favorite antique stores in the city.  The price wasn't bad considering all I had to do was get it in the house and up the stairs and it was ready to go.

I did install some drawer liners that I picked up at TJ's so long ago that I had forgotten I had them.  I love Lilly of the Valley and this little desk just looked like she would love them too.

I won't often sit here to use my laptop so I decided to use a small runner on the top of the surface.  I love the detail of the crocheted edge on this piece, I don't remember where I picked it up but my bet would be an estate sale somewhere.

I decided to add a touch of silver to my new desk and I'm using an simple silver tray that I found at SA for $1.99  It polished up nicely and now holds a picture of one of my grand pups, my pens which I mixed in with some silver spoons to hide the necessities as much as possible and a nice faux arrangement of crocus in honor of spring which is still a few weeks away.

The lamp is in need of a different ribbon but I haven't found the right one yet so the gold will have to do for now.  The picture is of my two children at my son's wedding, it's one of my favorites.

The chair is one that my mother in law gave me years ago.  I was with her when she bought the chair frame at an auction at one of the historical homes in our little town, she brought it home and made this beautiful needlepoint cover. I know she would be pleased that I'm still using the chair after all these years.  I like the contrast of the wood stain with all the white that I have in the room and the chair has a nice scale to the desk.

The sheers were a great find at Salvation Army, they are Waverly's Leaf Print and I paid $9.99 for two panels.  I used one in this room and one in the next guest room.  These rooms get southern sun exposure all day and this gives just the right amount of filtering into the rooms and also really enhances the leaf pattern.

You just completely inspired me this morning. I want a ladylike little corner like that now, too. I have several desks in the attic that could be contenders, too.

I really do love the look of this.

Miss Char,
I'd definitely say you linked to the correct party today. .. when I saw your desk the words out of my mouth were. . .WoW! What a lovely piece. The curve of the desk drawer and those curved legs are elegant. Adding a sentimental chair. . .vision of loveliness!Enjoy your place to pen notes, post a blog, reflect. These are the joys of retirement. Time.
Fondly,
Pat

What a lovely spot! I really like your sweet desk and how wonderful you found one you didn't have to work on. Love the use of silver you have too. You didn't say anything about them, but I love the print I'm seeing on your curtains.
Be a sweetie,

I love your beautiful desk. It is just perfect for that spot. I am so glad you found something so pretty and that you could use it now.
I wish I could be there to go shopping. with you. Oh, what fun that would be. You enjoy yourself sweet lady.
Thanks for you visit. That was my first post since I broke my foot. Bob has his apron on and I am going to be so in debt to him when I get better. Like I am not anyway. I just told him I will carrying him around on a pillow for a year. Hugs, Ginger
