Chicken Soup Tablescape

Like so many homes right how we have been hit with the cold and flu season.  You would think living in this cold weather that no germ would be able to survive but they do.  Today's tablescape is one of survival, starting with hot tea and chicken soup and ending with chocolate.  It doesn't seem to matter how bad a cold is there is always room for chocolate, there isn't a better remedy for any medical malay in my book .

I've collected these blue and white chicken soup bowls for several years.  The first one I found was when I was traveling south on the Longest Yard Sale.  It was a few years and several  chicken soup bowls later before I realized that they were made for FTD to be used as get well flower containers.

I set this vignette up on the bed in a guest room that is decorated in white, blue and yellow.  The old wicker tray is something I've had for many years, I believe I picked it up at the Allegan Antique market one summer when I had a booth there selling antiques with my friend Chris.

This is without a doubt the best chicken soup I've ever tasted.  I'm sure most of you follow Yvonne over at Stone Gable, this is a recipe she posted from her family.  I have struggled for years to find a recipe for chicken soup that didn't taste and look like dish water.  I'm certainly not the first person to give Yvonne a shout out over this soup but please if you haven't made a big pot of this give it a try soon.  Nani's Chicken Soup from Stone Gable.

The little blue tea pot lamp was a bargain from TJ's, I think I paid $5.  The cut cotton napkin was $.99 from Salvation Army, I picked up eight of them.

The dinner plate is Spode's Blue Room Collection, Rural Scenes, I have six and they came from Goodwill.  The most dear piece is the sterling silver soup spoon that was gifted to me along with several others by my good friend Sheila. The white bone china salad plate stacked next is Bella Lux again from TJ's.  The little blue and white under plate stacked next is Johnson Brother's Coaching Scenes.

The tea mug is Queen's Kitchen Blue Pig and the little square plate is from several I purchased at the Crate and Barrel outlet in Chicago.

Char, what a heartwarming setting. I have really grown to love blue dishes and I am not normally a "blue person". I LOVE IT! It's especially lovely with the white. I am trying not to be GREEN over that wicker bed tray. I would love to find one at a bargain price! :) Thanks for the soup recipe. Somehow I missed this and my chicken soup also taste like dish water. (We must have the same recipe!

Lovely post, Ma'am.

I HAVE THAT SAME CHICKEN SOUP BOWL!!! You're right, it DID come with some get well flowers in it. LOL How fun that you've found several over the years.

I am totally in love with the little blue tea pot lamp!!! I've coveted my DD's one that is made from a silver teapot for years. I would have snatched that up in a heartbeat, had I seen one like it.

Sorry to hear you've been sick. I know exactly what you're dealing with & it is NOT fun.
Get well quick!

Your lovely blue & white tray with your lamp & bowl of soup is a perfect recipe for cold sufferers! How appropriate the bowls were originally part of a get well flower arrangement :-)

I would never have guessed that your soup bowl started its life as a floral container.

Thanks for the soup recipe recommendation. I'd like to have a bowl right now!

This just looks so inviting! I love the blue and white, and the toffee--yumm!! That tray is adorable, too. I tried making chicken noodle soup in the crock pot today, but I didn't have noodles so I used macaroni and the past just disintegrated! lol I will check out the recipe at Stone Gable! Thanks!
