Stop and Smell the Greens

I've been traveling since late November and just didn't have the time or energy to devote to holiday decorating this year. I decided that a "touch" of Christmas in each room was better than a full blown decorated living room and nothing else in the rest of the house. My edited version of my mantle is a perfect example, I didn't remove anything that is normally there but just added two faux amaryllises and a small vintage wreath over the mirror. This edited version of holiday decorating is growing on me. I may give it a try again next year.

Next is a picture of the centerpiece on my kitchen island. I picked up this fabulous very large tin square container at a thrift shop. I think I paid $5 for it and the labels were still on it from Pottery Barn. Unfortunately you can't see it in this particular picture because of the greens but I'll show it again in the spring with something more fitting for showing off the piece. In this case I set my wood birdcage in the center and just filled it with greens. Couldn't have been much simpler....once again my edited holiday decorating.

For the front of the house I went with something way out of the comfort zone for our neighborhood. I'm sure the neighbors are ready to have me committed, certainly not the first time but again with my edited holiday decorating I thought this beautiful red wool double breasted coat with black curly wool cuffs and collar looks perfect with just a faux green wreath over the shoulders. I have a spot light on it for after dark and a faux Christmas gift lighted standing next to it. Unfortunately this picture doesn't do the coat justice, at the time I took it we had very little snow on the ground but its just too cold to go out there now and try and take more pictures. Hopefully you get the idea.

My point of this edited decorating adventure this year is that its "OK" if you can't get everything set exactly as you would like during the season. Do the best you can and enjoy the reason for the season with family and friends, put down that glue gun and scissors and "smell the greens".
Merry Christmas

Miss Char, You must have ESP! I just sat down for a break. When I do I try to read some of my friend's posts. We too have been traveling, having house guest, weddings and compromised health.
Your post is a beautiful testament to the fact: We don't have to do everything.
Your decorations are beautiful, festive and you have kept it to a minimum. I absolutely am gaga about your front porch. You are one creative lady. I would be proud to be your neighbor. God bless you and Merry Christmas, Ginger
Oh, I just cut three tasks from my list because of your post. Love ya!

Char - I don't see how you've had time to do any decorating at all with all of the traveling that you've been doing lately. I like what you've done and think that just a touch of Christmas looks very nice. I never in a million years would have thought of using a coat on my porch but I LIKE it!!

Even your "edited" decorations are prettier and more elegant than most people's "full blown" decor. Where did you ever come up with the idea for the coat and wreath? You are tres chic!!
