Grace & Favor – A Life Worth Living

Sunday, August 20, 2006

I have truly been blessed with good friends all around the U.S. In the last twenty years I have been given a clean bed and warm meal at so many wonderful homes. Large or small it makes no difference, the welcoming hug at the door is always the same. I can't tell you the times my friend RuthAnn has made her famous spaghetti with meat sauce and Texas sheet cake for Joan and I when we've stayed with her. We've had wonderful trips from her home as she and her husband Ted have lived in different areas of the east. I'll always be grateful for hysterical evenings spent in NYC, Cape May, Williamsburg, Washington DC. and so many other places. I've seen the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center, the lightening of the National Christmas Tree in Washington and wonderful December birthday celebrations in too many places to list. My southern friends have also opened their homes and hearts to me. Keeping in mind that this was done as a leap of faith on their parts as these doors were opened after we had spent at most, one group weekend together with other Southern Living friends. This is truly remarkable, to give someone the keys to your car and say "I'm not standing in that line at the damn Lady & Sons one more time, drive yourself". My best friends Sharon's family have also opened their home to us in Estes Park at the base of Rocky Mountain National Park. Again, made to feel at home, given the keys and told "I'm not John Denver and I'm climbing up there again for you or your best friend!" John and Bev are dear friends and I hope to visit them again sometime soon. In a few weeks I'll be off to Mexico for a weeks vacation at a fantastic resort just south of Cancun. One of my best buddies has given me a week at his condo for the second year in a row. Again, the generosity of good friends who know my love for travel. Last year I took my sister- in-law and my niece with me. This year Debbie will be going with me along with her two sisters. I'm looking forward to good conversations, lots of food and some great memories.
