Halloween Arrives for Lunch

WELCOME TO MY HALLOWEEN TABLE
I've said before that I'm not much on Halloween decorating preferring the fall harvest look. In reading many blogs I find that I am not alone in the fall harvest preference but today however, in honor of Halloween I dug through the ruins of my fall decorating stash and found a couple of Halloweenish type pieces to put together a table that says "witch in residence". I have family coming over for a fun day of baking so the table is set for both Halloween and a noon time luncheon. I will edit out the table for the actual luncheon as I got a little carried away with what I placed on the table and left no room for the guests.

I started with a Witch's hat that I purchased at a craft fair in Indiana this summer. I loved the lady's booth, filled with lots of primitive fall and Halloween decorations. I don't use many primitives anymore in decorating my home but I'm always drawn to them. This one I just had to have. It has a cute star on the top and there is a crescent cut in the tin of the hat so if you want to place a candle inside it will glow.

This sweet little blackbird was a another purchase from the MAXX.  I do love that store.
I love these glasses, I picked the up years ago at Pier One.  I think they still carry the spider web effect in different styles of glassware now.  These just reminded me of a web you might find in the witches hut.

For the place settings I used my fall acorn dishes from TJ MAXX, purchased three or four ;years ago.  The pumpkin colored salad plate was a recent purchase at the grocery store, I love the combination together and for $1.50 each you can’t beat the deal.  Oh and the chinese lantern in the bottom of the bowl is actually from my yard.  I was so surprised a week or so ago when I was out cutting things down for winter to find one lonely branch of chinese lanterns in one area of the flower garden.  I guess I must have some traveling bird passing by last spring to thank for that.

The silverware was placed in the napkin and tied with some leftover burlap from my Autumn tablescape. click here I printed Halloween sayings on craft paper and tied that into the silverware bundles.

The witches shoes were my only purchased when I attended the Country Living Fair a few weeks back.  I love them and now wish I had picked up two sets.  A woman does have to have her shoe collection don’t ya know.  The picture of the witch was something I posted a few weeks ago. click here  I think she looks like she is probably a “good” witch.

A stack of  yummy pumpkin spice donuts from our local orchard click here in a cloche that just seams to be made to hold donuts.  Of course the donuts are history now but they did look cute for the picture.

When witches go riding, and black cats are seen,
the moon laughs and whispers, ‘tis near Halloween.

Your table is lovely & I especially like the poems you put on the napkin ties. Gonna' borrow that idea!

How on earth do you keep the doughnuts from falling over when you lift off that cloche??? Its a darling display but I'd be afraid I'd have to pick them up off the floor. LOL

  15. I'm not a big Halloween decorator either, so I really appreciate your gentle touch....you've flirted with Halloween without embracing it...I like that. Thank you for sharing your wonderful design and for stopping by my post. Come visit any time. Cherry Kay

  19. A very nice Halloween tablescape! I'm not a big Halloween fan either, but I do like the cutesy Halloween things (as seen in my last two posts and my banner!)

Even though I don't like witches, I love those witch's shoes! True about women and shoes! LOL!

    Great job!

  20. Your witch hat and shoes were excellent finds! And you were indeed lucky that a bird dropped that seed in your garden--I priced chinese lanterns at the florist this week, and came home without them! Happy Autumn! Linda

  23. The witch shoes are just my kind of thing. Stop by and visit my post this week, I had quite a few witches take their boots off for my table. I love the witch picture that you did. That really adds to the table. I think this is a wonderful table for Halloween

  28. Hello Char! Just saw your wonderful comment at the Back Porch. Thanks so much!

I bought the tureens three years ago at the opening of NH's Briarcliff store in KC. Mary Carol may still stock them. I am still seeing several things from a few years ago, in her online shop.

We went to the opening of that store and haven't been back. In fact we haven't been back to KC in three years or I would have certainly visited the store.

Are you going to Atchison for the home tour? I wish I could be there. It's amazing! Have a good time and blog it. Mary Carol allows photos in the stores and her home.

  32. Nice job, Miss Char, for someone who doesn't decorate for Halloween! I think it is just the right touch. I find that as the years go on {or is it as the kids got older} I put less out for Halloween and just try to keep in Fall themed. Of course, with a grandchild in the family now, I may have to reverse course on that!

  38. What pretty dinnerware on this Halloween table! Love the witch's hat as your centerpiece. And your witch shoes are so cute, too. How did you like the Country Living Show? I wasn't overly impressed- too many items from China, way too much primitive mdse., and pricing in many booths was exorbitant! I paid $20 for my buffet lunch, too. But I guess I should say it was much healthier than the "fair food" I didn't eat! LOL

  39. Char, I had to comment on the comment you left me! I laughed out loud when you wrote about skipping out in glee... I did. My husband and son were waiting for me in the car. I was, as I said, "gleeful". And was excitedly telling them about my new treasures. They were "happy" for me. But I needed "gleeful"! So I called my daughter and we had a "gleeful" talk about all the pretty things I found!!!!!
You are a woman after my own hear!
