End of Summer

My children are grown but as I see the big yellow school bus lumbering down the street I know my days on the porch are numbered and summer has officially ended.

September can still be a beautiful warm month here in Michigan but in my mind I know my love affair with summer is over for the year.  I thought I would share a few pictures I've taken in the last month and you can see the summer sun waving good bye.

You can see the walking path on the west side of the dam in our little town, it follows the river upstream and past the marsh areas that the ducks and swans move through.

I saw this log fallen log when walking along the walking path one day, it looked exactly like a shark to me.  Do you see it?  I even seen the eye of the shark looking at me...won't tell you what Mr. Hubby said when I showed my shark to him.

The swans usually hang out in this area, they do come down toward the dam some days if the kayaks and canoes aren't too prevalent.  I did catch a couple of shots of them along the east shore of the river.

And this is the reality of what we have now, oh we will still have some beautiful summer days and fall here is just spectacular but when I was camping this week at the big lake I snapped a few pictures of what is to come.

Just as we were leaving the beach the state workers were out installing the red flags of warning for anyone who might have been swimming in the lake.

  1. Beautiful photos and that trail looks like a great place to walk and enjoy the changing of the seasons. When we go to Florida for the winter I always have so much nostalgia for the changes we have in NC but then you all post the snow photos...lol....Brings me back to reality.

  3. Ooooooh, I immediately spotted the new header....love it! Nice photos too. I do not like summer heat (anything hotter than 75-80 turns me into a mole...won't go out!) so I am looking forward to turning off the a.c., opening the windows, lighting the candles. Funny how people enjoy different seasons. Perhaps it is because we only have 2 seasons in So Ca that I look forward to the Fall & Winter, which equals some change. And I still have a wait. Our heat lingers until the 3rd week of October. Ugh...our pumpkins have spoiled sitting outside in 90 degree weather! LOL~
Why don't we trade a bit of summer? I'd be glad to give you some! haha.

  4. Your pics are sooo beautiful. Makes you wish summer would never leave. It is still oppressively hot here. No rain, didn't even get rain from the hurricane. High surf, no raid. Plants are suffering.
I so enjoyed living a dreamy summer day through your pics. Thank you for sharing.

  5. Miss Char,
I enjoy all four seasons, but for the first time in years. . . I'm ready to move on to Fall. Think the triple digit temperatures have spoiled Summer for me. Your photos are lovely...don't know what Mr. Hubby had to say...but I saw the shark, too!
    Fondly,
    Pat

Your world looks wonderful - enjoy the last few days of summer. And please post more pictures as the fall colors grace your area. This could truly be one of those Pure Michigan ads with Tim Allen! 10. I still get to sit on the porch & wait for the school bus, but its at my DD's now. Heading over there in about 20 mins. ~~big smile~~
I love the cooler temps. & lower humidity but the thought of what follows always depresses me a wee bit. I wish our summers could be more like fall for a little longer.

The year my DD got married, on Dec. 23rd, it was 60ยบ & FABULOUS weather. No one needed coats! That was a great year.

Your photos are beautiful, Char. Keep them around so we can look back on them when the snow flies.
    Hugs,
    Rett

  19. It has been WAY to long since I have come for a visit on your virtual front porch and I see I have missed so very much!

This morning I woke up thinking about the mini-pumpkin wreath you made last year so I had to come over and refresh myself on the how tos and I think I am heading to HL to get the supplies (but going to try it with the artifical). You inspire me, girl!

    Happy Fall, sweet friend!
