Today's table is sent for two rather than the six or eight. This is my favorite time of year and I love setting a pretty table with lots of comfort foods. For this first fall tablescape I'm going with burlap and an outside setting with a small wicker table that does seat four but for today its just the two of us Our days are changing quickly here but we still have a few beautiful days left to enjoy a dinner outside.
I have to say I love the burlap runner that I made for this tablescape but I will NEVER work with burlap again. I was lucky with the loose weave of the fabric that the embroidery came out as clean as it did. Although the pattern was certainly easy enough, good grief just four seams I fought with this thing most of the day.
OK, I'm done whining so back to the tablescape. I chose an off white beaded plate for my base, the pheasant salad plates are a beautiful addition to the place setting. The napkins were a gift from my daughter and I love their ability to work with many settings. They are a pretty pattern and yet are neutral.

The "take home" gift is my homemade pepper jelly. This time of year I'm clearing the garden of the rest of the jalapeño peppers and making pepper jelly. I'll post the recipe for the jelly very soon.

and your table top is just right...seasonal but not overblown...modern but traditional...and that can be a tricky balance to get right...and that HUGE CLOCHE...wow...that was a great find :)
I love that humongous cloche! Your pheasant looks very at home under there. :-) You've set a lovely table- the plates are gorgeous. So you won't be sewing with burlap again, huh? That tablecloth looks just great- the embroidery is so simple and elegant. When I've used burlap as a table cover, I just cut it and layered it- no sew for me- I thought "rustic" fit the bill quite nicely. Thanks for coming by and don't forget to put all the ideas you like in a specific file. Like I'm speaking from experience..... I am forever wondering where I saw something! LOL I guess I should practice what I preach...

Wonderful post! Loved your comments about the challenges of sewing burlap! The runner looks fabulous, though, and adds a perfect rustic touch to your pretty tablesetting. The pepper jelly looks great all dolled up with ribbon!

ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about burlap being difficult to work with. . .a horror story from my sixth grade in elementary school. . .thank goodness for Grandmothers who were excellent seamtresses and had the patience of Job! I did see a burlap runner on vacation that had painted sunflowers on the ends. Hm-m-m, just an idea for your next try! Thank you for this lovely post! Truly inspirational. . .this year our Christmas decor for the family room is pheasants.

ReplyDeleteI love the pheasant under glass. I'm glad I am not the only one who had trouble with burlap. I ended up ditching the sewing project and using Stitch Witchery iron on stuff instead.

ReplyDeleteOOh love those dishes.. Really stunning. The whole table looks wonderfully inviting. The runner is amazing.What stabilizer did you use? Here's a tip for the edges next time.. use a light weight water soluble stabilizer cut in strips and then use a temporary spray adhesive (sewing of course) and adhere to the edges.. turn under the edges, top stitch. Because those lovely lose nasty edges are adhered to the stabilizer, they don't wobble around as much.. It does look wonderful and was so worth the effort..
