And so it began, a very easy remake, I'm not an upholstery by any means so I took the easiest route possible.
I started by centering a square of fabric over the top of the ottoman with the pattern I wanted centered. I used an electric stapler to secure the fabric around the base of the upholstered part of the ottoman making a pleat at each corner.
Next I cut a large strip of the fabric that was the circumference of the ottoman plus 1/4 the distance again. I lined this piece and hemmed it to the correct floor length. I sewed this into a large circle, the finished seam was placed in one of the corner pleats so it really isn't noticeable.
Since I was in no mood to do any actual upholstery I folded under the raw edge, making equal pleats on each corner and then again attached with the staple gun.
I finish the piece with a length of upholstery trim. All in all this project took less than an hour or so.

I have an ottoman and footstool fetish! This turned out so cute! Great tutorial and two step process! You made it look so easy. Now, you can sit back and put your feet up. :D Michelle
Wonderful re-do! I'm without a sewing machine at the moment, and am envying you the ability to whip up such a pretty little addition to your home. Thanks for sharing!
That looks fabulous and looks like a professional job. Love the fabric. I hope you will share this at my party which runs on Wednesdays with the link up Tuesday night if we have power that is. Winter storm is almost here. Ugh.
Thanks for the shortcuts on covering the footstool. You did it in such a simple way. I saw a couple of stools last week at a thrift shop for $15 each and didn't get them. Now I think I will since your post made the process seem so easy.
Its beautiful NOW that you worked your magic on it. I made one last year from a old coffee table and its time to recover it.. I think I'll try it your way this time.. Thanks for the great tutorial.
Sew pretty :) Great job!
Beautiful!!!!
Btw, Left you a little award! http://www.southernsomedays.com/2011/01/awards-day-doncha-love-em.html
You did a great job on this. Maybe I could do this with a footstool I have. Thanks for the inspiration. Looks great!
This is so cute. You did a wonderful job and the fabric you found would go well in my home ;).
You did a great job. I took a correspondence course in the 70's to help my MIL in her upholstery shop and loved it. I don't know why I never think to fix something up myself. I could do it.
You had me thinking "I, too, can do this!!" until you started sewing.
Another great Char project!!
Your footstool is fantastic! It looks like it was professionally upholstered! Thank you for the inspiration, and thanks for visiting me.
Cheers,
Andrea
Awesome. I love that you achieved this in such a short time. It looks very professional. I especially love the bird print.

Char, this project is very impresive. Very pretty outcome and boy do I love that fabric. Where did you find it?
Donna, the fabric is from Thibaut and I got it at Boca Bargoons in Fort Myers Florida. I love that store and every time I get down there I make a trip to see what they have in stock.
Here is Thibaut's on line link:http://www.thibautdesign.com
Love it! The fabric that you used is to die for!
How nice...I love the color and design of the fabric! Great job! ♥
What a cute makeover. I have a stool just like yours and it needs a makeover too. Thanks for including all the details.

That turned out just great! I will have to keep my eye out for one on Craigslist!
