I love this poem and hope it will soon bring out the sun and wonderful memories our family shared with Bruce while he was with us.<br />
<br />
<div align="center">
<br />
<span style="color: teal;"><span style="font-size: x-large;"><b>Gone From My Sight</b></span><br />by Henry Van Dyke</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,<br />
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts<br />
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.<br />
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck<br />
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.<br /><br />
Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone"<br /><br />
Gone where?<br /><br />
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,<br />
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.<br />
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.<br /><br />
Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.<br />
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"<br />
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices<br />
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"<br /><br />
And that is dying...</div>

Last January my husband was admitted to the hospital and against all odds came home in early June. He had a good summer spending time at the lake and enjoyed football in the fall. We are blessed.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
He returned to the hospital again last week so I will be taking some time away again. Hopefully I'll be back soon with some new projects and a bathroom remodel. </div>

Take care.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've had a pair of windows in the basement for several years and never used them for anything...until this Christmas. I decided to bring one up and use it as the centerpiece of this years mantel. I'm not always a symmetrical person but for some reason this years mantel came out that way. The candles are all on timers, an incident at Christmas a few years back taught me that I can not be trusted with "real" candles in the house.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is a closeup of the left side of the mantel. Both of the containers were picked up at GW for nearly nothing. The one to the far left has deer heads on the side and I believe it came from Pottery Barn. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The right side of the mantel has an old ice bucket that someone painted white. I placed amaryllis on each side of window, the one on the left has bloomed but this one grew taller but never got a bloom. The lettering of "Let It Snow" was made on my Cricut and the photo of the snow bike is a canvas I had made last year. I just used velcro to attach it to the window.</div>

This table will be used after the holiday for a small dinner and all I'll need to do a remove the Christmas ornament place card holders and it will look great with a white background of snow outside the window.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNPjmtjfmC81Qv2TwFNsYMkVv6ilMvYmcExvFbIh1kML2N2LvYShMvlJToAHn-uiNd1MlptO3ZbejjwOEqrZuOEZINHtxeoWDQ2UwsdFbG_bXy1pMmpzuPJ__M1BASljzqMeYD5A/s1600/2014+Christmas+Table+Bay+Leaf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNPjmtjfmC81Qv2TwFNsYMkVv6ilMvYmcExvFbIh1kML2N2LvYShMvlJToAHn-uiNd1MlptO3ZbejjwOEqrZuOEZINHtxeoWDQ2UwsdFbG_bXy1pMmpzuPJ__M1BASljzqMeYD5A/s1600/2014+Christmas+Table+Bay+Leaf.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I changed out the charger from a gold to garnet and added a cardinal salad plate. A touch of garnet on the glassware and a place card holder also in a garnet red is all this table needed. You can see how to make the place card holders <a href="http://misschar.blogspot.com/2014/12/place-card-holders-in-5-minutes.html">here</a>, these are so simple and go together in a matter of minutes.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I kept the bay leaf centerpiece and it looks just as good for Christmas as it did for Thanksgiving. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTauQh-Z-Oqi4_LN-MD-XzieC3sB4qzlYMTNuAc3qF3a5g7ZF9FSyT59WmNO_ekEc1q8d6OZ5Rtra_fJiXbftghjTXurNmlAjtcnV5D8S_3m1kEBU24-CbgT5wPQSXaAaoUijmmA/s1600/2014+Christmas+Table+Bay+Leaf+Centerpiece.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTauQh-Z-Oqi4_LN-MD-XzieC3sB4qzlYMTNuAc3qF3a5g7ZF9FSyT59WmNO_ekEc1q8d6OZ5Rtra_fJiXbftghjTXurNmlAjtcnV5D8S_3m1kEBU24-CbgT5wPQSXaAaoUijmmA/s1600/2014+Christmas+Table+Bay+Leaf+Centerpiece.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made a bay leaf wreath for the back of each chair, same process as the little boxwood wreaths</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made <a href="https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=29177930#editor/target=post;postID=7421704609606891142;onPublishedMenu=posts;onClosedMenu=posts;postNum=38;src=postname">here.</a> I picked up bags of bay leaves at Penzy, this is a super simple project and smells good as a bonus.</div>

I've been on a craft high the past week and today's offering is a quick and easy one. The supplies are minimal and you may even have everything you need around the house.</div>

I must warn you these are like potato chips...once you've made one you'll want to make a ton of them.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
I had cut some larger limbs around the yard this summer and saved a few "just in case". I cut several wood rounds not being careful about the exact thickness. They are all all pretty close to being the same and if you prefer you can put a "fence" on your saw to insure each round is the same.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I picked these sparkly ornaments at the store HL I think, I do know they were 1/2 off so for six place card holders my out of pocket was less that $3.00.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
One glop (technical term) of hot glue and a quick set of an ornament on top and your half way to the finish line.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When I positioned the ornament on the glue I did some straight up and others I tipped slightly on their side.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This process took less than a minute. I mean this is a quick project.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUreF8PkOdJ_P-0vMZcXdlzkpyRg0xXG-0d81fpSXvYveXg1r0gJD3za2fJvLW-uQcbN11Wr-Z03c21oCElA4KzWKJOiz3S8KL-9_JPkPH8XeEv9iVU-1OhGkRdQsNWBEfdYUCpw/s1600/2014+placeholder+wire.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUreF8PkOdJ_P-0vMZcXdlzkpyRg0xXG-0d81fpSXvYveXg1r0gJD3za2fJvLW-uQcbN11Wr-Z03c21oCElA4KzWKJOiz3S8KL-9_JPkPH8XeEv9iVU-1OhGkRdQsNWBEfdYUCpw/s1600/2014+placeholder+wire.jpg" height="288" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I used a semi soft gauge wire to make the place cards. I just twisted it around my finger, again I'm not an "exact" type person and dipped it in the glue pot and slipped each wire into the top of the ornament. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1bMZ3e2svc9Ef0mngg7vnFFT6soY-jUiBER5NkGhwbqYqIsRaMtva6t7dSXSyrQjoXtxhl6DETbjznEnLj6b4psKkrpRUDb2DuKETM1tS6SJbKQIi7MGirRCA99vWupX-BdgZwQ/s1600/2014+place+holder+button.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1bMZ3e2svc9Ef0mngg7vnFFT6soY-jUiBER5NkGhwbqYqIsRaMtva6t7dSXSyrQjoXtxhl6DETbjznEnLj6b4psKkrpRUDb2DuKETM1tS6SJbKQIi7MGirRCA99vWupX-BdgZwQ/s1600/2014+place+holder+button.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Since this wood was just cut late this fall and isn't dry I glued a button on the center bottom of each piece of wood so that the "green" wood wouldn't touch any surface. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had company for the weekend and used one of these in the guestroom as a welcome.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
So my friends, check your craft room today and get started on these little gems, quick, easy and economical. A great little gift for those who love the holidays as much as we do.</div>

I saw this wonderful idea on Pinterest a few weeks back and knew immediately I had to take a stab at it. <a href="http://www.livecreativelyinspired.com/pottery-barn-knock-off-christmas-sign/">click here</a>. My rendition is a little different because of the space I wanted to use this idea in. I have a post in my front yard that always holds a sign of some sort and I knew this one was perfect for this time of year.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggP1oY1LyHcpDICYotbdUw4tm5HyJmr0m0ulYjOkWctE3YEUedKpSxSZxQraty8W04VI9pkwnFhJqU3DcluoIsbObo2hyaV7YvwT6tR-Gx9oi8zFsSW7ZNf4zQb163wXZV5LHcVg/s1600/Wonderful+Time+of+the+Year+sign.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggP1oY1LyHcpDICYotbdUw4tm5HyJmr0m0ulYjOkWctE3YEUedKpSxSZxQraty8W04VI9pkwnFhJqU3DcluoIsbObo2hyaV7YvwT6tR-Gx9oi8zFsSW7ZNf4zQb163wXZV5LHcVg/s1600/Wonderful+Time+of+the+Year+sign.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We had a lot of snow fall in the month of November but by the time I got this project finished much of it had melted so this picture shows some of our winter yard with only a couple of inches of snow, not the 30+ we had the week before. Timing is everything I guess, normally in the winter you wouldn't see the rod that is behind the sign because of snow. I had a couple of friends ask what it was for, the answer is to keep the sign from swinging wildly in the wind.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">So...this is how I made my sign.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was out scouting for something the right size to make my sign. Eureka I found a brand new kitchen cupboard door at Habitat for $3.00 It was already painted white front and back with a coating that will hold up in our Michigan Christmas weather.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I used my Cricut to cut out the letters and snowflakes. I applied them to the white door, they will be removed after the red and will leave the white letters you see above. I did a light sealer coat of white paint over all the vinyl and door frame to help with bleeding in the next step.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This would provide the white lettering you see on the finished sign once the vinyl letters were removed. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmQxJD_ZjghAUYE2uXETv7VzFlxmj49yjUbmSjn1HSpgmEBtKghYKyG-L4slLIXHZDuXrnsgPfSb_t9mpMet8jyZ-TpmSThc3BhCk5mDzRLBIDDJ8-Bitj7r7zJ_TxOpd8WDj05A/s1600/2014+Christmas+Sign+white+over+letters.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmQxJD_ZjghAUYE2uXETv7VzFlxmj49yjUbmSjn1HSpgmEBtKghYKyG-L4slLIXHZDuXrnsgPfSb_t9mpMet8jyZ-TpmSThc3BhCk5mDzRLBIDDJ8-Bitj7r7zJ_TxOpd8WDj05A/s1600/2014+Christmas+Sign+white+over+letters.jpg" height="400" width="298" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Next was a coat of an exterior Red paint over everything but the outside frame. This was applied right over the vinyl and the door. It took two coats to cover the white with the red.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhytR7SHQlBD8xYd5RVhW4dY-FacZVAKYRNMEuKh3e7vyptRo8bdjMBQlnWxgXAuF4i5SiL-Zv6a555Lo-8kRxccosvwcVstBSeHgn9_SOi97rMb36O6OfI8mvPmx1rW5n2sPmXA/s1600/Pintrest+Full+Decals+with+paint.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhytR7SHQlBD8xYd5RVhW4dY-FacZVAKYRNMEuKh3e7vyptRo8bdjMBQlnWxgXAuF4i5SiL-Zv6a555Lo-8kRxccosvwcVstBSeHgn9_SOi97rMb36O6OfI8mvPmx1rW5n2sPmXA/s1600/Pintrest+Full+Decals+with+paint.jpg" height="300" width="400" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can see the outline of the vinyl lettering under the red paint. I let it dry overnight and then peeled the vinyl away leaving the white lettering underneath. Even with the white coat to seal the letters before applying the red there was way more bleeding of the red than I had expected.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRUS6VUQWn91M-vcWCqAeYEMRJ8YIzcbnqW0_qH0hJtnRiNxkJ9hyphenhyphenwj-MNG3b9LQWEoItoh8ZqmI36GpGqqX3q2g_XgFZCbPtn3ms6IngOYi_Rdbl0U6WODvRnYVEdHGu_1ldsPw/s1600/Pintrest+Christmas+Signage+Wonderful+Time+of+the+Year+Bleed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRUS6VUQWn91M-vcWCqAeYEMRJ8YIzcbnqW0_qH0hJtnRiNxkJ9hyphenhyphenwj-MNG3b9LQWEoItoh8ZqmI36GpGqqX3q2g_XgFZCbPtn3ms6IngOYi_Rdbl0U6WODvRnYVEdHGu_1ldsPw/s1600/Pintrest+Christmas+Signage+Wonderful+Time+of+the+Year+Bleed.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I used a small brush and a little of the white paint to clean up the bleeding then used three coats of poly sealer to finish the project.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is a great project concept and I think I'll do something similar for spring using my Cricut. I am in no way gifted with the ability to paint freehand so using the above process to make lettering that looks semi professional worked for me. Stencils could also be used or if you have the gift of freehand this would be an easy project.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
This table is set in the bay window of our living room. As you will see winter came early here in Michigan and dumped two feet of snow on our little town. It is expected to warm over the weekend and hopefully the bulk of the snow will be gone by Thanksgiving so travel should be clear for those who travel to be with family. I used an old bay leaf wreath, <a href="http://misschar.blogspot.com/2013/02/bay-leaf-wreath.html">bay leaf project</a> that was in the kitchen and decided that bay leaves and pears would be my theme for this table.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I elevated the centerpiece on a beautiful square cake plate which I picked up at GW. It has the same beaded edging as my basic white plates.</div>

The turkey salad plates were a score from GW for $3.99 for a set of four. The beautiful gold tones went well with gold tone chargers and popped when layered with my white beaded plates. They came in one of those cute round boxes that you see everywhere with salad/dessert plates in them. When I turned the box over I saw the price tag from the Pottery Barn for $49.99. That made for a happy dance all the way to the </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
It looks like January outside today but my small kitchen table is set for Harvest Time. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This small table has a beautiful honey color which just yearns for fall colors.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I grabbed a few things from my last <a href="http://misschar.blogspot.com/2014/10/this-fall-season-i-decided-to-take.html">tablescape</a> I had set for early fall. The glassware is crackled and from Pier One, I've had them for years and I think they still carry them. The salad plates and bowls I picked up at TJMaxx, they have acorns around the rim, the under plate is which is solid colored is from the dollar store. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The pumpkin centerpiece is also a leftover from my early fall tablescape and the silver bowl filled with napkins from the Pottery Barn also holds the flatware for the table and a few feathers tucked in the bowl.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This pillow was last years find at Pottery Barn in January. It was in a bargain bin for a couple of dollars. It was actually a lonely placemat with embroidered fall decor on it. It sewed up quickly and if you're familiar with the cost of PB pillow covers it was a real steal.</div>

Thanksgiving table in the works for next week although with all the snow we have I feel that I should jump right to Christmas. Speaking of Christmas I have a great DIY project from Pintrest I'll be featuring soon.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This fall season I decided to take a different path with my tablescape. Looking over the pumpkin selection which was where I had been headed the ornamental cabbages and kales caught my eye. This tablescape couldn't have been much easier, I had a summer tablescape on this table <a href="https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=29177930#editor/target=post;postID=6277064378429847052;onPublishedMenu=posts;onClosedMenu=posts;postNum=2;src=postname">click here</a>. I changed out the place mats from the black and white chevron pattern to my wicker and replaced the soup tureen centerpiece with a green pumpkin. Then an ornamental cabbage was added to each of the small soup tureens that were already the topper for my white everyday dishes and a black and white dot print salad plates.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This table will be used for a small informal fall dinner I have scheduled later this month. I added a touch of color to each setting with a black and white dot napkin that is a nod to the salad plates.</div>

The pumpkin centerpiece had to be elevated for this table so I set it on a wire basket turned upside down and put all the lids from the small tureens under it. This wasn't my best effort for a centerpiece and I may still work on it a little before my dinner party but for today I am happy with this.</div>

Six months ago we had very little hope that Bruce would survive and yesterday on Father's Day I was able to take this picture of Bruce with our kids. He's been home a week and is working on making a full recovery,<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I am so blessed to have our family together and to have witnessed a miracle during the long winter of 2014. Thank you for your prayers and emails during the past few months regarding Bruce's health.</div>

I have two tables that I usually have set with some sort of a tablescape most of the year. This one today is in our living room and I decided to do something out of my comfort zone. I normally don't use placemats and certainly not a bold black and white chevron print. Way out of my zone but the ones below caught my eye on the clearance bin at Home Goods. The placemats were the start of a black and white table with one small splash of color. I had planned to use a few peonies from my gardens but the poppies out front were just screaming to be the pop of color for this table.<br />

<br />
For each placesetting I took a small tureen from my entry cabinet. I paired each of them with a black and white dot under plate and a white dinner plate and also has a small dot that outlines the under plate. Most of these mini tureens no longer have the ladle with them, the indention is there but no sign of the ladles when I came across them.<br />

This piece does not have the ladle indent, its too large to be a sugar bowl so I'm not sure what its function was. If you have an idea please let me know.</div>

Sometime in the fall when wondering around Hobby Lobby I came across a wall graphic kit that was marked down so far it was embarrassing so of course I grabbed it. Then I sat it in the craft room sure that I would remember where it was when spring came and I could apply it to the farm table. Well...I finally found it today and got to work on applying it to the table. I'm happy with the finished look, this table is eight feet long so it really needed a little something more than just the grain sack treatment and I think this applique is a keeper.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLR-2L70OjY591-MH39dj5ysYPucdu4M9R16gzFIuEyFpGj9Ty5Se3jZlcojS_gpdbO6RyioJ_x5JcsoSfQ1CmVSPuBDFyoMant8ClHsTnRgAdOtQuIWdtA2zLGSYqSRIoPctDug/s1600/Porch+Table+with+graphic+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLR-2L70OjY591-MH39dj5ysYPucdu4M9R16gzFIuEyFpGj9Ty5Se3jZlcojS_gpdbO6RyioJ_x5JcsoSfQ1CmVSPuBDFyoMant8ClHsTnRgAdOtQuIWdtA2zLGSYqSRIoPctDug/s1600/Porch+Table+with+graphic+1.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This was all I needed to apply the applique. Talk about simple.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLxeIc99Xx8XN_M8DPrA9zt-abG7XBYvRBjBRumH8iDkTEns5LR-YTtGcPrVE7Dkbrz4STYNdENAtxHNo8ABVdb37JjXFhfslrYuiE8glgljgJ-hFYbdhbS24hHXDNU9Gtm2oTOQ/s1600/Porch+Table+with+Graphic+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLxeIc99Xx8XN_M8DPrA9zt-abG7XBYvRBjBRumH8iDkTEns5LR-YTtGcPrVE7Dkbrz4STYNdENAtxHNo8ABVdb37JjXFhfslrYuiE8glgljgJ-hFYbdhbS24hHXDNU9Gtm2oTOQ/s1600/Porch+Table+with+Graphic+2.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The directions were very clear and took just a few minutes to complete. This particular graphic came in two pieces, you have the option to cut it into more lines if you choose.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I couldn't get a shot of the whole graphic, its long, I've been out weeding in the heat all day and this is as good as it gets. Not exactly a top notch attitude for presentation of a project but as my dear hubby would say "it is what it is".</div>

I hope y'all are having a wonderful end of May day.<br />

One of my very favorite places to visit any season of the year is my niece and nephew's horse farm. I didn't take pictures of their home which faces out onto the pastures and barns as a courtesy of their privacy but I thought I'd share a couple of pictures I took of some of the outbuildings. Oh...and of course a few of the thirty eight horses they own/board on the property.</div>

The hostess served the pasta with crawfish which everyone loved but this basic dish can be paired with just about any type of protein or will stand with the flavor on its own. I've made it several times using either chicken or sausage and it always is a hit.<br />

I have two tables set for Easter although there won't be an Easter dinner here this year. Its just part of my decorating I guess. The first tablescape was used last weekend when a few friends were here for a simple evening meal. What was suppose to be a quiet evening of girl talk was interrupted by a terrible storm that came up quickly and left us without power until the following day. The problem was that I made made two quiches that were in the oven when the power went out. I was hopeful for a short time that the power would return but when it didn't I fired up our gas grill and continued to bake the quiche. We ate a little later than expected and by candlelight but it will be a dinner we won't forget soon.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
It all started with the large silver bowl that was sitting on the table waiting to be cleaned and polished, I started dumping things into it that were in need of placement somewhere in the house for the spring decor. As it turned out I liked the randomness and left it just as it was.</div>

We had to add the candles because of the lack of electricity so I had to move much of the detail from the table to make room for the candles. We did have a wonderful time and won't forget our evening for some time to come.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
I have been invited to a couple of homes for a "stop by" during the day and I needed to come up with a little thank you to leave behind. I stopped at the floral supply and picked up little flowers to plant in some leftover bunny cups from last years Easter season. <a href="http://misschar.blogspot.com/2013/03/peat-pot-project-for-easter.html">How To Make Bunny Cups</a>.<br />
<br />
I plan to put them in clear plastic gift bags and tie with raffia on Sunday before I deliver them but today they are out on the deck enjoying our nice sunny day.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4P1VrULhAh_gQ-BSw7Tj41TZt_-C-6lFuo8D8XP8qJ18NTqXAxt0ryK36LGHv5GLejRIz6vDbarF6PyGEaGH4_XHAA2bnDQ3sLpckLF-7RUCYT8We72eDucL1WqrphUaxpI44tw/s1600/Plant+Stand+Full+View.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4P1VrULhAh_gQ-BSw7Tj41TZt_-C-6lFuo8D8XP8qJ18NTqXAxt0ryK36LGHv5GLejRIz6vDbarF6PyGEaGH4_XHAA2bnDQ3sLpckLF-7RUCYT8We72eDucL1WqrphUaxpI44tw/s1600/Plant+Stand+Full+View.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Do you ever read the "what is it and what is it worth" in Country Living and other publications? That segment and the one on houses for sale are usually my favorites. I didn't think this piece I picked up at a resale shop last week would come under "what is it"...I already know it's value isn't worth crowing about but upon closer inspection the what is it became clear.<br />
<br />
I'm not sure where it will end up but I knew I had to have it, as it reminded me of a piece my daughter-inlaw has. It rolled around in the back of my SUV for a week before I brought it is the house. I was cleaning it up a little when it hit me...this is a cheese box with legs! Do you see it???<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxLuSDXe-5DaKQ6IEjj4DP6A3hME3wR2SmIJgc81DAFXl2LDE-X4rP4bq2ZG-Lzo8fK4J0f1ssiysO6L-kBONRs190kPqQt0fgBKF0X1FAq3ANKYD1OJTXnDkEPvw3O8VHHqnn0w/s1600/Plant+Stand+Bottom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxLuSDXe-5DaKQ6IEjj4DP6A3hME3wR2SmIJgc81DAFXl2LDE-X4rP4bq2ZG-Lzo8fK4J0f1ssiysO6L-kBONRs190kPqQt0fgBKF0X1FAq3ANKYD1OJTXnDkEPvw3O8VHHqnn0w/s1600/Plant+Stand+Bottom.jpg" height="357" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The bottom shelf is the box that a large cheese round comes and the top shelf is the box lid. It looks like someone shaped the legs out of 1x2 and screwed them to the inside of the box. How simple is that? It doesn't look manufactured but who knows.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeHaCG4-mgYbGqgLxem2cwrus7jxSsZYEWnFMltuUO1Kj39gcyLf5Ly2XVnJ6EtjjzQadjgdCtTo9c6fNQ7P08RQ1GfPdXYTPQHO_lbWi04ZzCX1hQXiNZiZsQMMVu3Lkeq9rduw/s1600/Plant+Stand+Top.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeHaCG4-mgYbGqgLxem2cwrus7jxSsZYEWnFMltuUO1Kj39gcyLf5Ly2XVnJ6EtjjzQadjgdCtTo9c6fNQ7P08RQ1GfPdXYTPQHO_lbWi04ZzCX1hQXiNZiZsQMMVu3Lkeq9rduw/s1600/Plant+Stand+Top.jpg" height="261" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Rather than doing something productive around the house I kept looking at the simple construction of this piece and thought (I try not to think too often because at my age I'm not sure how many "thoughts" I can spare) that you could use this same construction method with a hat box. You know the ones you see at TJMaxx all the time. One would have to beef up the construction a little because the TJ's are made from cardboard and this one is from wood but the principal construction would be the same. I'd like to say...and here is what my hat box idea looks like but with most of my hours spent at the hospital that just isn't happening right now.<br />
<br />
I walked around the house looking for the right venue for this piece. I stopped first in a guest room and did the most obvious...I plopped a faux fern on the top piece.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLf618f-c8If0WB0uHfgjBC3FCHu4_kqQdLRlG0kTrXodLIoqSH4H-e0nNFhet8eLXwhoRtHmnqXUbZx4gdT6y7UJ5AiUQxSPsHbH4l2Z-tc6jn7ef8jZ8Vt6wuinmqJeO0GN5lg/s1600/Plant+Stand+greens.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLf618f-c8If0WB0uHfgjBC3FCHu4_kqQdLRlG0kTrXodLIoqSH4H-e0nNFhet8eLXwhoRtHmnqXUbZx4gdT6y7UJ5AiUQxSPsHbH4l2Z-tc6jn7ef8jZ8Vt6wuinmqJeO0GN5lg/s1600/Plant+Stand+greens.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Next stop was my bathroom. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8QlKsiFhn7BZ4GP6Zn_HzDLSo7OxcjCxyzoYKVwiAytO3zi7s8UnWTWqc4imPuhGOPksQwGSakV08EId-Tf-TeQwuMbRRbcLwD336K68nQWSOja-uPQ6j921YC19NVBH-IC2Wag/s1600/Plant+Stand+Bath.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8QlKsiFhn7BZ4GP6Zn_HzDLSo7OxcjCxyzoYKVwiAytO3zi7s8UnWTWqc4imPuhGOPksQwGSakV08EId-Tf-TeQwuMbRRbcLwD336K68nQWSOja-uPQ6j921YC19NVBH-IC2Wag/s1600/Plant+Stand+Bath.jpg" height="400" width="288" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then as I was bringing the piece back to the main floor I stopped on the stair landing for one more idea.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCWZHg0pIKxqrlGIUIxyT18ifp4nexVq1R_BpoZ3g3Xb7SIx79B8m71VfnmbzS1EtOlh9JE1o6TYE-1XVzxEdbYsWuGq8XLzuS0co7qQM0RQRPrB3saLV6dZJlx9zBjKJmcnrFrg/s1600/Plant+Stand+Stairs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCWZHg0pIKxqrlGIUIxyT18ifp4nexVq1R_BpoZ3g3Xb7SIx79B8m71VfnmbzS1EtOlh9JE1o6TYE-1XVzxEdbYsWuGq8XLzuS0co7qQM0RQRPrB3saLV6dZJlx9zBjKJmcnrFrg/s1600/Plant+Stand+Stairs.jpg" height="400" width="303" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The piece is currently on the porch waiting for spring to arrive here in Michigan. I think this piece may be used as a server on the porch for summer to hold plates and glassware. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">On another note...I would like to thank all who have asked about my husband. He is progressing after a series of life threatening events and we hope to have him home by June. Thank you again for your prayers and notes of concern.</span></span></div>

<br />
Are you one of those pinners like me who are constantly pinning wonderful recipes and then never getting around to trying them? I do it all the time and then fall back on the old favorites and never venture into someone bests from their recipe collection. <br />
<br />
Saturday I decided to try a couple of Blueberry recipes that looked perfect for a cold winter Sunday morning. I had found <a href="http://laurassweetspot.com/2012/06/14/blueberry-buckle/">Blueberry Breakfast Buckle</a> last week when wondering around Pinterest and decided to give it a try. I didn't have any of the big lush fresh blueberries that were featured in the original recipe but I had flash frozen some very small sweet berries during season last year. We live in an area filled with blueberry farms so I always try to make sure that I freeze enough fresh berries to get me through the season.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiMXLPMwRmR0DKdKJPLlmDQb9HiIqdDoNxTwo-Xrwf3_2E09Ef5_nidYoV4rvUYt6Lw65qQgu8bgWDNzmKAsflCZvYOy_ni0ypKFXwl23wwHxh1dMBH2JmbZbIxhyzPt7dwmj5UQ/s1600/Blueberry+Buckle+a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiMXLPMwRmR0DKdKJPLlmDQb9HiIqdDoNxTwo-Xrwf3_2E09Ef5_nidYoV4rvUYt6Lw65qQgu8bgWDNzmKAsflCZvYOy_ni0ypKFXwl23wwHxh1dMBH2JmbZbIxhyzPt7dwmj5UQ/s1600/Blueberry+Buckle+a.jpg" height="584" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I doubled the recipe and I don't think that effected the outcome but I can't be sure. The flavor of the cake was very good and the crumble on top was perfect. The texture of the cake however was very dry, again I'm not sure if my doubling the recipe had anything to do with the texture or if using smaller berries changed the texture but when I try it again I will follow the recipe to the letter. <br />
<br />
If you have some berries that need to be used up give this recipe a try and let me know your results. My results are no reflection on the original pinner's recipe as I did alter it.<br />

<br />
Monday was my mom's 92nd. birthday, she still lives on her own and with the exception of her sight she is in better health than many who are much younger. <a href="http://misschar.blogspot.com/2012/01/after-party.html">Mom's 90th. Birthday</a> We had a family dinner on Sunday so on Monday I picked her up at her apartment and took her to lunch, since it was such a nice yet cloudy winter day we decided to drive out to the big lake (Lake Michigan) to see what was up with winter at the shore. Before we even got out of town I had to stop at the dam since the swans were out. It was hard to get a picture of them together as they seemed to want their own space that day. Also taking a picture of something white on white isn't within my photo abilities either but this one was the best of the lot.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2vIZ6i97ScEq16FZ8RzwQH1u6bbs69J_le6YzmicqiIJ4EwiAnubf9S4pqvue4Mwd9176zN9EhTh_kC3tVVHUi6XbyKehAnO20Gix_dXQGn177mkxH9f_IBlbA7NI9Fc2wl88Vw/s1600/Swans+Winter+2014d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2vIZ6i97ScEq16FZ8RzwQH1u6bbs69J_le6YzmicqiIJ4EwiAnubf9S4pqvue4Mwd9176zN9EhTh_kC3tVVHUi6XbyKehAnO20Gix_dXQGn177mkxH9f_IBlbA7NI9Fc2wl88Vw/s1600/Swans+Winter+2014d.jpg" height="640" width="420" /></a></div>
<br />
After a few more minutes of trying to get a good shot of the two beauties they finally moved a little closer to one another.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjIjTm2cv6-kM9ZWAME-Iy8ykoDTYbhONGHoVtlfmKWTogIfuenqsL5CLG9e3_WJE3_Z-3hnFroS5OZ0dJeXB4UG1t-7S-AfGGoFBctAEknkmDjY7NDpqHeoEgFuNLEHiMV1buaQ/s1600/Lake+2014+c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjIjTm2cv6-kM9ZWAME-Iy8ykoDTYbhONGHoVtlfmKWTogIfuenqsL5CLG9e3_WJE3_Z-3hnFroS5OZ0dJeXB4UG1t-7S-AfGGoFBctAEknkmDjY7NDpqHeoEgFuNLEHiMV1buaQ/s1600/Lake+2014+c.jpg" height="380" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
We headed west over to Grand Haven after lunch to see the ice mounds at the lake. I have to say this year they are not very impressive. Normally they are much larger and go further out into the lake. This is the pier at Grand Haven and one of my favorites in winter because of the bright red against the white snow. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj65XCrTbMGC0g1rfZd7SgcbDnJPXndc-UM-EuDK0lSE5QyhKxQjSWfe4dv3kgfs8wc2y7bp9yolb0Iiv_3xFYxa5A6oO2-BOIiKnzDuXE8VTEfahyOrhjBAUc2IOVmhC9bkj9uAQ/s1600/Lake+2014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj65XCrTbMGC0g1rfZd7SgcbDnJPXndc-UM-EuDK0lSE5QyhKxQjSWfe4dv3kgfs8wc2y7bp9yolb0Iiv_3xFYxa5A6oO2-BOIiKnzDuXE8VTEfahyOrhjBAUc2IOVmhC9bkj9uAQ/s1600/Lake+2014.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
What looks like the shore line in brown is really ice with beach sand blown over it during the winter.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So mom and I had a good day together and I can confirm that Lake Michigan is still there waiting for summer to return.<br />

<br />
As I said in my last post winters are long here in Michigan and I try to embrace the clean colors of whites and creams when decorating the house. Our home lends itself to fall colors so winter could be drab if a little punch of clean clear color were not added for the winter season.<br />
<br />

<br />
Out every window in our home we have beautiful views of fresh snows. Unfortunately with the wind chills being well below zero the shots I've been taking have been from the comfort of inside.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4tsvajno4K1rKdS-XfWbw45OPGcYTjypdX5mSoFEgmBkeccXcKxH70Whzvx6gpLEKmY9UnB2yCpdggcLbTBghcA0ZpEb0AaoZX3vAe7VQ02C1fV9UIq1t4CKp3XrFicgu1ch2dg/s1600/Winter+2014+Candle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4tsvajno4K1rKdS-XfWbw45OPGcYTjypdX5mSoFEgmBkeccXcKxH70Whzvx6gpLEKmY9UnB2yCpdggcLbTBghcA0ZpEb0AaoZX3vAe7VQ02C1fV9UIq1t4CKp3XrFicgu1ch2dg/s1600/Winter+2014+Candle.jpg" height="640" width="579" /></a></div>
<br />
I left the faux snow on the top of this candle holder that had been sprayed for the holidays. Along with the twigs and greens of a leftover Christmas plant this setting gives our living room a little winter boost.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
In our entry a tall two toned piece holds my display of white soup tureens. This is a basic grouping that stays up all year round and acts as a staging background for add-ins depending on the season. For this time of year I just leave the white pieces in place.<br />

<br />
I do change out some of the artwork in the house for different seasons and this was what I had over the sofa for the holidays. Since its still applicable for January and February I'll leave it in place until its time for something new for spring. The white pillow was also left in place as it has a pretty snowflake pattern on it, this piece is special to me as it was from Dawn at <a href="http://creativecaincabin.com/">Creative Cain Cabin</a>. Along with artwork I also change out some of the pillows around the house during the winter season.<br />

Winter is a long reality here in Michigan and this winter is turning out to be a challenging one. When the Christmas decorations come down I tend to leave some winter items up for a couple of months. Today I have my dining table set for a friends luncheon. It seems to make more sense to have a gathering after the holidays when everyone's life settles back into a normal pace. If you would like to see last January's table from 2012 please <a href="http://misschar.blogspot.com/2012/02/we-have-been-blessed-with-very-mild.html">click here</a>.<br />

<span style="color: black;">This is an old photo I took a couple of years ago but it was taken in a snowfall and this much accumulated within about fifteen minutes. Its a mini snowfall compared to what we've received in the last week along with a horrible ice storm. If you check out Dawn over at <a href="http://creativecaincabin.com/2013/12/ice-storm-photos-christmas-story/">Cain Cabin</a> you can see some pictures she took of the ice storm. I'm an hour north of her and we had a little more extensive ice and snow here but we were both without power.</span></div>

The menu was simple, I have a tendency to over think and over serve with my menus so I decided that I was going to enjoy the company of my friends rather than spend my time in the kitchen getting courses ready for those sitting at the table. <br />
<br />
The menu was a beautiful ham and cheese quiche, cranberry chutney, a spinach salad with dried cranberries and feta and for dessert I did a Christmas platter with a variety of cheeses, fruit slices and butter cookies with a raspberry filling. <br />

My centerpiece was an old silver faux feather tree that I sprayed with snow flocking, I decorated it with White House Christmas ornaments that I've collected over the years.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
The take home gift at each place setting was a vase of Paper Whites. I picked up some vases at the Dollar Store and planted one single Paper White bulb in each vase about a week before the luncheon, they opened the day before the luncheon. I did spray the bottom of each vase with faux snow but after I took these pictures and I forgot to take another picture. </div>
